Acupuncture &
Functional
Medicine

Initial Intake
2-hours

During the initial intake, we are going to deep-dive into your medical history and utilize in-depth, Functional Medicine questionnaires that cover areas such as food, environment, stress level, supplements, and even comprehensive laboratory tests (blood, urine, stool, and saliva testing) if warranted.  I will then combine this with an equally detailed Chinese medical diagnosis to formulate the best treatment plan.

After the initial evaluation, a trial course of Acupuncture is recommended. This usually consists of four to six visits during a three or four-week period.  If the patient is experiencing acute or even chronic pain, I personally expect to have a 20 to 30% reduction in pain after the first treatment.  How long this reduced pain lasts varies from patient to patient and depends on the patient’s overall health and various other cofactors.  Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, with each treatment building upon the last.

Treatment can include Acupuncture, Cupping, Gua Sha, and Tui Na (Acupressure Massage). Although each treatment, as well as, each patient is unique, not every treatment will include all modalities listed above.

Follow Up
1-hour

1-hour session to evaluate patient progress, refill prescriptions and continue herbal therapy and nutritional guidance. For patients receiving acupuncture, this will be included within the context of return acupuncture appointments.

Treatment can include Acupuncture, Cupping, Gua Sha, and Tui Na (Acupressure Massage). Although each treatment, as well as, each patient is unique, not every treatment will include all modalities listed above.

Chinese
Herbal
Medicine

Herbal medicine from China has been used consistently for over 3000 years. Each herbal formula is personally crafted to complement your treatment plan and custom-fit your detailed medical diagnosis.

As a classically trained Master Chinese Herbalist, Dr. B prepares classic and customized herbal formulations for acute and chronic medical symptoms.  Customized herbal formulas are then ordered through an online pharmacy and shipped to your house within a few days.

Diet &
Nutrition

Nutrigenetics/nutrigenomics, the study of the relationship between gene expression and nutrition, proposes that disease can be prevented and reversed by drastically altering the nutritional environment. (Mutch DM, Wahli W, Williamson G.)

Nutritional Therapy uses food to prevent and reverse diseases that plague most western societies: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, arthritis, and depression. In order for food to be therapeutic, it must be nutrient-dense, measured in part by the nutrients and anti-nutrients, contained in consumed foods.

Dr. B knows that there is no one best diet for everybody. There are no absolutes when it comes to our food, during the initial intake we go over some of the best options for what best serves you and your needs.

About Brian

HEY THERE!

My name is Brian Caswell or Dr. B and I hope to help people like you.

NATIONAL BOARD-CERTIFIED
PRIMARY CARE PRACTIONER

I am a nationally board-certified primary care practitioner practicing in the state of Florida as an Acupuncture Physician (AP or DOM), and a proud St. Petersburg native.

I graduated with a Masters of Science in Classical Chinese Medicine and Herbal Medicine from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medicine in Asheville, NC, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee.

Over the last decade, I have worked with countless numbers of patients through some of their best and worst of times. I work with every patient to create an individualized comprehensive plan that encompasses Classical Chinese Medicine and Functional Medicine. This can include acupuncture, lifestyle, diet, nutrition, genetic research, environmental stressors, herbal, and nutraceutical supplementation, and other modalities to help in restoring, or discovering for the first time, optimal health and wellness.

The lineage from which I studied under and continue to honor is my mentor Master Yuen, an 88th-generation Daoist priest from the Jade Purity School, Lao Tzu sect, and a 26th generation priest of the Complete Reality School, Dragon Gate sect.

My goal and my passion, are to combine this ancient wisdom and lineage of Classical Chinese medicine and fuse it with the most up-to-date Functional medical practices of the modern age.

When I am not in the clinic. I find my comfort in nature and good food, woodworking, and refurbishing old stuff found in the craziest of places. I am a father as well as a partner to a very hardworking lady, who is a mother first and a dedicated nurse second. I am striving this year to read actual fiction novels for fun as well as pausing more to appreciate and be gracious for what I do have.

I look forward to working with you and learning your story.
